D2.His.13.3-5: Judge how useful a source is.
Official text
Individually and with others, students… Use information about a historical source, including the maker, date, place of origin, intended audience, and purpose to judge the extent to which the source is useful for studying a particular topic.
Not a focus of Third Grade's lessons, so no weeks are listed.
What it means for your child
This standard asks children to use who made a source, when, where and why to judge how useful it is. Third Grade's lessons do not focus on it.
Try it at home
- Ask, 'Who made this, and when?' about an old photo.
- Compare a museum website with an ad and talk about which is more useful for research.
- Ask, 'Would a source from long ago or today tell us more about that time?'
