Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.

Math lessons are not tagged with the practice standards, so no weeks are listed.

What it means for your child

Your child learns to understand a problem before solving it, try a plan, and keep going when it gets hard.

Try it at home

1. Before your child solves a word problem, ask them to tell you what it is about in their own words.
2. When your child is stuck, ask, 'What could you try next?' instead of giving the answer.
3. Praise effort and new tries, not only correct answers.
