What it means for your child

Your child reads third-grade words that do not follow the usual spelling patterns, like people, because and through.

Try it at home

1. Make cards for tricky words and practice a few a day.
2. Ask your child to find a tricky word in a book and explain which part is unusual.
3. Play a quick memory game with the tricky words.
