Rain Gardens
A rain garden is a low spot of soil planted with flowers and grasses. When rain falls on roofs and roads, the water rushes into storm drains. A rain garden catches some of that water. Because the soil and plant roots soak up the water, fewer puddles form in the street. The flowers bloom, so bees and butterflies come to visit. First, a family digs a shallow bowl in the yard. Next, they plant tough plants. Finally, the garden drinks the rain after every storm.
