    Mathematics

    I can measure lengths to the nearest half inch.

    Look: half inches

    1. Line up the object with the 0 mark.
    2. Find the closest mark at the other end: an inch mark or a half-inch mark.
    3. Halfway between 1 and 2 is 1 1/2 inches.

    Each object starts at 0. Write its length.

    Look: Pronouns

    1. A pronoun takes the place of a noun: Marcus → he.
    2. One girl → she, her. Two or more → they, them, their.
    3. The pronoun must match the noun it stands for.

    The Big Hill

    Marcus pulled his sled to the top of the big hill. He looked down and gulped. His cousin Tia zoomed past him. "It's easy!" she shouted. Marcus thought the hill was much too steep for him. He sat on the sled for a long time. At last, he took a deep breath and pushed off.
