Look: 4:50 to 5:25
- Jump to the hour first: 4:50 to 5:00 is 10 minutes.
- Jump from 5:00 to 5:25: 25 minutes.
- Add the jumps: 10 + 25 = 35 minutes.
Use an open number line. Mark the hour in the middle.

- Add 2–3 key facts from each text. Say a shared fact only once.
- End with a wrap-up sentence. Leave out your opinions.
Two Texts About Emperor Penguins
Text 1, Penguin Parents: Emperor penguins live in Antarctica. The mother lays one egg, and the father holds it on his feet under a warm fold of skin. For about two months he waits in the cold while the mother hunts at sea. She returns around the time the chick hatches. Text 2, Staying Warm: Antarctica is the coldest place on Earth. Emperor penguins stay warm in three ways. They have thick fat under their skin. Their feathers are packed tightly together. In storms, hundreds of penguins huddle close and take turns standing in the middle.
