Mathematics
I can find different rectangles with the same perimeter and compare their areas.
Look: perimeter 10
- Half of 10 is 5, so length plus width make 5.
- 1 by 4 has area 4. 2 by 3 has area 6.
- The one closer to a square holds more.
Find every rectangle with a perimeter of 18 units. One length plus one width must make 9.
| Sides | Perimeter | Area |
|---|---|---|
- 1.
1 by ____
- 2.
2 by ____
- 3.
3 by ____
- 4.
4 by ____
- 5.

Science
I can give examples of how the environment can change animals' traits.
Same Animal, New Look
Some animals look different when their environment changes. An Arctic fox has brown fur in summer and white fur in winter. A pet that eats healthy food and gets exercise grows strong. A fish in a crowded, dirty tank may grow slowly. The animal is still the same kind of animal. Its environment changed how its traits show.
Environment Detective. Fill in the chart for 3 animals.
| Animal | Inherited trait | What in the environment changed it | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
Read and answer.
- 1.
A horse grows a thicker, fuzzier coat each winter. What in the environment causes this?
- 2.
A pet dog eats too much and rarely runs. What may happen to its weight?
- 3.
Is the heavier dog still the same kind of animal?

Social Studies
I can describe ways people give time, talent, things and money.
Four Ways to Give
Jaylen helps his grandpa plant flowers at the town park once a month. That is giving time. Priya draws birthday cards for people at a care home. That is giving talent. The Ruiz family donates outgrown boots to a coat drive. That is giving things. Some families give money to groups called nonprofits, such as food banks or animal shelters. Families choose different ways and different causes, and every choice is respected.
Write time, talent, things or money for each example.
- 1.
Reading stories to younger kids at the library
- 2.
Donating canned food to a food bank
- 3.
Playing the violin at a community event
- 4.
Putting $1 in a jar for the animal shelter
Giving Research: with an adult, find 2 nonprofits in our community. Fill in the table.
| Group | Who it helps | One thing it asks for |
|---|---|---|
- 5.
The group I would most like to help is ____ because ____.
- 6.
Why might two families choose to help different causes?
Challenge: Write one way a third grader could give without spending any money.
Materials: computer or local newsletter (with an adult) · index cards
