Science
I can choose a testable question for my science fair.
A Good Science Fair Question
A good question can be tested. You change one thing and measure or count what happens. 'Does a sugar cube dissolve faster in warm water or cold water?' is testable. You change the water temperature. You time how long the sugar cube takes to dissolve. 'Why are flowers pretty?' is hard to test, because there is nothing to measure.
Question Brainstorm. Write 5 questions. For each, tell what you would change and what you would measure.
| Question | What I change | What I measure or count | Testable this week? |
|---|---|---|---|
- 1.
My chosen question: ____
- 2.
The one thing I will change: ____
Circle the question you could test with a fair test this week.
- 3.
Which question is testable?
○ Why do people like music?○ Does a ball bounce higher on wood or on carpet?○ What lived on Earth first? - 4.
What makes a question testable?
Challenge: Make this question testable: 'Which paper towel is best?'
