    Civic Action Project

Two weeks. One real community issue. A student-led action plan, a reflection, and a presentation that proves students can be changemakers.

    The 8 Steps

Walk through the project one step at a time. Each step lists the goal and the two or three things to do today. Standards alignment lives in the daily lesson cards.

    1. Day 161 · Step 1 of 8

Step 1 — Understand Civic Action

Define civic action and recognize that even kids can drive real change.

      • Brainstorm 5 ways people improve their community.
      • Talk with a family member about a change you'd like to see.
      Week 33 lessons
    2. Day 162 · Step 2 of 8

      Step 2 — Pick a Local Issue

Choose ONE real, local issue you care about and can act on.

      • List 3–5 issues in your neighborhood, school, or town.
      • Circle the one that matters most — and that you can actually help with.
    3. Day 163 · Step 3 of 8

Step 3 — Research the Issue

Gather facts from at least two credible sources and cite them.

      • Check kid-safe news, library books, or interview a community member.
      • Take notes in the Research Log and write down each source.
    4. Day 164 · Step 4 of 8

Step 4 — Plan Your Action

Build a small, real plan: what, when, who helps, what you need.

      • Pick one concrete action (letter, cleanup, drive, awareness poster).
      • Fill out the Action Plan template with dates, helpers, and materials.
    5. Days 166–167 · Step 5 of 8

      Step 5 — Take Action

Carry out your plan over two work sessions and document each step.

      • Follow your plan; adjust if something doesn't work.
      • Take photos or keep a written log so you can show what happened.
      Week 34 lessons
    6. Day 168 · Step 6 of 8

Step 6 — Reflect on the Outcome

Answer all five reflection questions thoughtfully — even small results matter.

      • Write answers to the 5 reflection prompts in the Reflection Guide.
      • Share what changed (or didn't) with someone you trust.
    7. Day 169 · Step 7 of 8

Step 7 — Build Your Poster

      Create a 6-section poster: Title · Issue · What I Did · Result · What I Learned · What's Next.

      • Sketch the layout in the Poster Guide template first.
      • Add color, big letters, and at least one photo or drawing.
    8. Day 170 · Step 8 of 8

      Step 8 — Present & Celebrate

Share your project in a 5-minute presentation and celebrate the impact.

      • Practice once with a family member before presenting.
      • Use the Presentation Self-Check to be ready.
