3-PS2-4: Solve a problem with magnets.
Official text
Define a simple design problem that can be solved by applying scientific ideas about magnets.
What it means for your child
Your child defines a simple problem that magnets can help solve, such as a latch that keeps a cabinet shut, including what the design must do and its limits.
Try it at home
- Look for magnets that solve problems at home, like fridge magnets or a cabinet latch.
- Ask your child to design a way to keep a small box closed using a magnet.
- Ask, 'What must your design do, and what materials can you use?'
