    SL.3.1.a: Come to discussions prepared.

    Official text

Come to discussions prepared, having read or studied required material; explicitly draw on that preparation and other information known about the topic to explore ideas under discussion.

What it means for your child

Your child comes to discussions having read or studied the material and uses that preparation to share ideas.

    Try it at home

    1. Before talking about a book, ask your child to mark one page to share.
    2. Have your child write one idea on a card before a family discussion.
    3. Ask, 'What did you read that helps you answer?'
