    Mathematics

I can name, place, compare and find equal fractions using strips and number lines.

    Look: same numerator

    1. Both fractions have 5 parts: 5/6 and 5/8.
    2. Sixths are bigger pieces than eighths.
    3. So 5/6 is greater than 5/8.

Use fraction strips or a number line to answer.

    1. 1.

Name a fraction equal to 2/3.

    2. 2.

Name a fraction equal to 3/4.

    3. 3.

      Compare: 3/4 ___ 3/8

      ○ 3/4 > 3/8○ 3/4 < 3/8○ 3/4 = 3/8
    4. 4.

      Compare: 2/6 ___ 5/6

      ○ 2/6 > 5/6○ 2/6 < 5/6○ 2/6 = 5/6
    5. 5.

      Write 4 as a fraction.

    6. 6.

How many eighths make 1 whole?

Draw a number line from 0 to 1 for each fraction.

    1. 7.

Mark 3/4 on a number line split into fourths.

    2. 8.

Jada ate 2/8 of a pizza. Ruben ate 2/3 of the same size pizza. Who ate more? How do you know?

Challenge: Name two fractions that sit at the same point as 1/2 on a number line.

    Materials: fraction strips

    English Language Arts

I can find cause and effect and figure out science words.

    Where Do Puddles Go?

After a rainstorm, puddles cover the sidewalk. When the sun comes out, it warms the water. As a result, the water slowly changes into an invisible gas called water vapor. This change is called evaporation. The vapor rises into the air. Puddles in the shade last longer because they get less heat. Finally, the sidewalk is dry again.

The sun shines on a puddle on the sidewalk, and wavy lines show water rising into the air as vapor.

    Use the text above.

    1. 1.

What causes the water to change into a gas?

    2. 2.

What is the effect of shade on a puddle?

    3. 3.

Circle two signal words that show cause or order.

    4. 4.

What does evaporation mean? Write the clue.

    5. 5.

      What is water vapor?

      ○ an invisible gas○ a kind of rain○ a puddle

Add the ending. Change the spelling if you need to.

    1. 6.

      swim + ing = ____

    2. 7.
