Identify and know the meaning of the most common prefixes and derivational suffixes.

What it means for your child

Your child knows the most common prefixes and suffixes, like un-, re-, -ful and -less, and what they mean.

Try it at home

1. Make word cards with prefixes (un-, re-, dis-) and base words, and build new words together.
2. Ask, 'What does 'reread' mean? What does 're-' do to the word?'
3. Find words with -ful or -less in a book and say what they mean.
